What MT2 does in the body

A lab-built version of the hormone that tells melanocytes to make dark pigment, and tells the brain some things about hunger and desire.

Melanotan II is a cyclic analogue of α-MSH. It lights several melanocortin receptors at once: MC1 (pigment), MC3 and MC4 (appetite and energy), MC5 (glands). That is why it is a powerful pan-agonist. It is a probe of that circuitry — not a tanning product, and not a medicine.

It occupies the whole melanocortin sheet at once so a bench can ask what MC1 through MC5 do together. Pigment, appetite, flushing — as the Arizona papers described them. Not a sunbed.

Mix with 2 ml bacteriostatic water → 5 mg/ml · 5,000 mcg/ml

Hypothetical aliquot: 100–250 mcg; 0.02–0.05 ml · 2–5 units on a U-100 syringe
How often: Every other day, or 3× weekly; Until the pigment question in the assay is answered; then a hold

Bench steps

Let the vial sit until it is no longer cold to the touch.
Wipe the stopper with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Let it dry.
Draw 2 ml bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol).
Run the water slowly down the inside glass — do not blast the cake.
Roll between finger and thumb until the cake is gone. Do not shake.
Label the date. Store the solution at 2–8 °C. Do not freeze. Use within 30 days unless the note below says otherwise.

Start at 100 mcg in the notes that bother to titrate. Nausea is the classic first-hour finding in the melanocortin literature. Protect from light.
